Year 3

Year 3 and Year 4 Newcastle Schools FA 7-a-side Champions

The Year 3 and 4 football team were victorious on a blustery night at Gosforth Academy where they added to their ever growing trophy collection by becoming Newcastle Schools under 9 champions. They shared the honours with Royal Grammar School in an exciting 2-2 all draw in the final. The team were called upon at late notice to take part in the finals night as the highest placed runners up from the group stages. On the night, the boys won their opening game 1-0 against a strong Ravenswood team and then convincingly beat Newcastle School for Boys 3-0 with a fantastic performance. In the final group game the team came up against a very organised Royal Grammar School and despite dominating the game and forcing their keeper to make 3 outstanding saves the boys lost 2-0. As runners up in the group we met Christchurch in the semi-final and came out on top with a late goal to win 2-1. That lead us to meet RGS again in the final in what proved to be a breath-taking game of football that had goals, strong tackles, shots off the woodwork and goal line clearances. The boys were desperately unlucky not to come out of the game with the win despite hitting the woodwork 3 times. Their great play deserved more and eventually the spoils were shared with the independent school in a thrilling 2-2 draw, RGS scoring very late on. The team deserves credit for not only their performance and attitude on the pitch but off it as well, many congratulations to them all.
